BEND, OR –– The Bend City Council will hold its first election since amending the city charter.
In May 2018, the Bend City Charter was amended to allow direct elections for mayoral candidates. With allowing for more input from the public, the upcoming election will present an interesting shift in local politics.
Bend city council members are appointed for a term of four years, maintaining a variety of roles and different responsibilities within the local community. The City of Bend underlines the many responsibilities including serving on the Bend Urban Renewal Agency Board, the Budget Committee and other local committees. Council members Barb Campbell, Nathan Boddie and Mayor Casey Roats round out the three positions that will be replaced.
The candidates running for the council positions include current councilor Barb Campbell, Andrew Davis, Gena Goodman-Campbell, Victor Johnson, Ron Boozell, and Sarah McCormick. Additionally council members Sally Russell, and Bill Moseley will be competing for the position of mayor, alongside Charles Webster Baer, Brian M. Douglass, Michael R. Hughes, and Joshua Langlais.
Elections will be held on the evening of November 6, 2018. According to the Deschutes County Elections Office, all ballots must be received by 8:00pm to be counted. The public is welcome to watch the results in the Barnes Sawyer room of Deschutes Services Building.
